Maverick Theatre Group zoom in on Hammersmith

Deal done ! A flicker of bright news before the next lockdown. Brecker Grossmith has let a 1st floor office at 141 King Street, Hammersmith to the Maverick Theatre Group. Maverick is a not-for-profit registered charity with emphasis on access to the arts, particularly for working class and underrepresented communities. It aims to bring new audiences to plays, podcasts, events, publishing, radio, drama and literature. And to introduce to the industry new practitioners – actors, writers, directors, backstage and technical personnel. It was started on a council estate in inner-city Birmingham and launched by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham in 1994. The theatre company started producing plays in informal spaces – mainly pubs. Writer and founder Nick Hennegan created Maverick’s original proposition. “Forget the TV for a night. Don’t rent a film. Come down the pub and see a show. It’s where it all started. No retakes, no cameras, no going back, just live action with real people right in front of you. Have a pint and a pie and if you don’t like it you can have your money back.”
Nick plans to run online Zoom courses  7:00-10:00 pm in the week. If you want to know more, why not take a look
